OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH DAY

The importance of dialogue in creating a positive culture of Occupational Safety and Health

In a company with a strong OSH culture, workers feel comfortable discussing their concerns and sharing the risks they face throughout the day. Their issues are taken into account, and there is open communication between decision-makers and workers.

The International Labour Organization emphasizes the importance of communication in building a Safety Management System by establishing dialogue as the main theme on World Occupational Safety and Health Day 2022, as a tool for preventing workplace accidents.
Under the title “Let’s act together to build a positive culture of occupational safety and health”, the debate is open to all involved in creating Occupational Safety and Health Systems about the importance of open communication among all participants in preventing work-related accidents and injuries.

An effective Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS), which includes all participants in the system, is essential to protect the work environment and safeguard the safety and health of workers.

By definition, an OSHMS is a set of tools that enhances the efficiency of managing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) risks related to all organizational activities. This system should be considered an integral part of any company's management system.

When an organization is aware of the nature and severity of its risks and the hazards associated with its activities, it achieves one of the most important steps in consolidating and supporting the fundamental principles of prevention: awareness of the nature and severity of its risks and the hazards associated with its activities.

For a successful implementation of an OSHMS, it is essential to create communication channels that allow for informing and, above all, including all workers. Good communication can help prevent work-related accidents and illnesses. Promoting awareness actions and creating open communication channels are initiatives that should be encouraged so that objectives are understood and collaboration from everyone occurs.

Lack of communication can lead to workplace accidents, which, in addition to causing significant financial losses, endanger the health and integrity of workers.

A safe workplace depends on everyone.

As with other goods, there has been a growing trend towards the dehumanization of commercial relationships between seller and buyer of PPE, given the increasing number of companies and entities selling these goods online or through catalogs. There is a growing supply of such operators, and it is a reality that, due to the speed of analysis and access to information by the interested party, also has positive factors that ET follows. However, we continue to believe and assert that personal accompaniment alongside our partners is essential, convinced that it is this proximity that creates the context that may be lacking in an online or remote purchase situation: a context that allows for the identification of a specific PPE (or uniform piece or service) as the appropriate or potentially most relevant for a particular need.

This purpose can only be achieved with clear, dynamic, and interactive communication among various people: the employer, OSH and/or HR technicians, Production or Maintenance managers, and other workers and elements whose opinions and considerations can and should be valued in defining solutions that ensure the safety and health of workers more effectively, comfortably, and, downstream, more productively.

Promoting communication among all these participants will be essential for the company’s safety culture to be firmly established and more likely to endure, which is why we always feel great satisfaction and personal appreciation when our partners call on us for this role, and we can indeed have a positive effect on this chain of essential contributions.

For the order request to reach the Design and Development office, the client had to assess their needs, not only regarding quantities and sizes but also about the technical specifications of the piece, such as the types of protection required. These are crucial pieces of information that the sales representative must convey with utmost confidence to start working on the design of the piece. Only after these aspects are well-defined can I do my part of the work.

Quality control is a great responsibility. This is where the garment design process ends. After the final check, the order is sent to the client, and when we ship it, we are sure that all requirements have been met, quantities are correct, and the pieces are in compliance.
To make this happen, it is extremely important to always have the technical sheet and production sheet with me. It is based on these two documents that I can verify if everything is as requested.

Although I have 31 years of experience, always in the area of quality control, there are things that do not pass directly through my hands; there is a whole team effort behind that ends here. Ultimately, the success of work done by us is directly related to the flow of information between the various parts. The final result reflects our professionalism, and our fulfillment comes from customer satisfaction.
