HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK DAY

The importance of dialogue in creating a positive culture of Safety and Health at Work

In a company with a strong OSH culture, workers feel free to talk about their concerns and share the risks they face throughout the day. Their questions are taken into account and there is open communication between decision-makers and workers.

The International Labor Organization highlights the importance of communication in building a Safety Management System by establishing dialogue as a tool for preventing accidents at work as the main theme of World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2022.
Under the title “Let’s act together to build a positive culture of safety and health at work” opens the debate to all those involved in setting up Occupational Safety and Health Systems on the importance of open communication between all those involved in preventing work-related accidents and injuries.

An effective Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS), which includes all those involved in the system, is essential for protecting the working environment and safeguarding the safety and health of workers.

In its definition, an OSHMS is a set of tools that improves the efficiency of occupational safety and health (OSH) risk management, related to all the organization's activities. This system should be considered an integral part of any company's management system.

When an organization is aware of the nature and seriousness of its risks and the dangers associated with its activities, it has achieved one of the most important steps in consolidating and supporting the basic principles of prevention: awareness of the nature and seriousness of its risks and the dangers associated with its activities.

For a successful implementation of an OSHMS, it is essential to create communication channels that inform and, above all, include all workers. Good communication can help prevent accidents and work-related illnesses. Awareness-raising activities and the creation of open communication channels are initiatives that should be promoted so that the objectives are understood and everyone collaborates.

Lack of communication can lead to accidents at work, which not only cause huge financial losses, but also put workers' health and integrity at risk.

A safe workplace depends on everyone.

As with other goods, there has been a growing trend towards the dehumanization of commercial relations between the seller and buyer of PPE, given the increasing number of companies and entities selling these goods online or by catalog. There is a growing supply of this type of operator, a reality which, due to the speed of analysis and access to information by the interested party, also has positive factors that ET follows. However, we continue to believe and affirm that parallel personal support for our partners is essential, convinced that it is this proximity that generates the context that can fail in an online or remote purchase situation: the context that makes it possible to identify a given PPE (or piece of uniform or service) as the right one or potentially the most pertinent for a given need.

This can only be achieved through clear, dynamic and interactive communication between several people: the employer, the OSH and/or HR technicians, the Production or Maintenance managers and the other workers and elements whose opinions and considerations can and should be of value in defining solutions that guarantee the safety and health of workers in a more efficient, comfortable and, downstream, more productive way.

Encouraging communication between all these players will be essential if the company’s safety culture is to be firmly established and more likely to endure, so we always feel great satisfaction and personal appreciation when our partners call us into this role and we manage to have a positive effect on this chain of essential contributions.

For the order to reach the Design and Development office, the client had to establish their needs, not only in terms of quantities and sizes, but also in terms of the technical specifications of the garment, such as the types of protection required. This is extremely important information that the sales assistant must pass on with the utmost confidence in order to start working on the design of the garment. Only once these aspects are well defined can I do my part of the job.

Quality control is a big responsibility. This is where the garment design process ends. After the final check, the order goes to the customer and when we send it off, we make sure that all the requirements have been met, that the quantities are correct and that the garments are in conformity.
For this to happen, it is extremely important to have the technical data sheet and the production sheet with me at all times. It is on the basis of these two documents that I can check that everything is as requested.

Although I have 31 years’ experience, always in the area of quality control, there are things that don’t pass directly through my hands, there’s a whole team effort behind it that ends here. Ultimately, the success of our work is directly related to the passage of information between the various parties. The end result is a reflection of our professionalism, and our achievement lies in customer satisfaction.
