PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
PPE – Personal Protective Equipment is a set of devices, accessories or clothing specially designed to be used by a worker in order to protect them against risks that may affect their safety or health while carrying out professional activities.
These risks can be physical, chemical, biological, mechanical, electrical or even psychosocial. PPE acts as a protective barrier, preventing or minimizing direct exposure to the hazards present in the work environment.
Essential characteristics of PPE
- Suitability for the risk and the activity: The PPE must be effective against the hazards identified and compatible with the work to be carried out.
- Comfort and ergonomics: It should allow mobility, thermal comfort and not hinder the execution of tasks.
- Size and fit to the worker: Must be available in different sizes or be adjustable.
- Maintenance and durability: It must maintain its effectiveness over time, requiring regular checking and replacement.
- CE certification: All PPE must comply with European safety standards and be duly certified.
